# Privacy Policy for SOS 111

Effective date: March 31, 2026

This Privacy Policy explains how SOS 111 collects, uses, stores, and shares information when you use the SOS 111 mobile application and related backend services.

SOS 111 is designed to support personal safety workflows, including emergency alerts, Safe Mode check-ins, location sharing during active safety events, and emergency contact notifications.

## 1. Information We Collect

When you use SOS 111 safety features, we may collect:

– Alert level selections

– Alert messages and updates

– Check-in activity

– Safe Mode session data

– Notification delivery records

### Location Information

SOS 111 may collect precise location information from your device:

– While the app is in use

– In the background during active emergency or safety workflows, if you grant background location permission

– When location is needed to improve alert accuracy, deliver safety features, or share live or recent location with your selected emergency contacts

### Device and Technical Information

We may collect limited technical information such as:

– App version and client identifier

– Device notification token generated by Expo for push notifications

– IP address and user agent associated with backend requests, where available

– Error and diagnostic information generated by the app or backend logs

## 2. How We Use Information

We use collected information to:

– Create and manage your account

– Authenticate users and maintain sessions

– Provide emergency alert, Safe Mode, check-in, and contact-notification features

– Process and store location updates during active safety workflows

– Send push notifications and SMS alerts

– Maintain security, prevent abuse, and investigate misuse

– Support compliance, auditing, and operational recordkeeping

– Troubleshoot reliability and improve the service

## 3. Location Data

Location data is central to SOS 111 emergency features.

If you grant permission, SOS 111 can access precise location while the app is in use and, for certain active safety workflows, in the background. The app uses this information to support alert accuracy, live location sharing, and emergency notifications.

Location data sent to the backend is intended to be encrypted before storage. In the current backend implementation, location history records are configured to expire after 365 days unless a different legal or operational requirement applies.

You can control location permissions in your device settings. Some SOS 111 features may not function correctly if location access is denied.

## 4. Notifications and Communications

SOS 111 uses push notifications and may use SMS messaging for emergency and safety-related communications.

– Push notifications are handled through Expo notification services.

– SMS notifications are handled through Twilio when configured.

– Alert messages may include location details or map links when required for emergency communication.

If you disable notifications, certain reminders and alert flows may not function as intended.

## 5. How We Share Information

We do not sell your personal information.

We may share information in the following circumstances:

– With your selected emergency contacts when an alert or safety workflow requires notification

– With service providers that support core app functionality, including Firebase, Expo, and Twilio

– With infrastructure or security providers that help us host, secure, or maintain the service

– If required by law, regulation, legal process, or a valid governmental request

– To protect the rights, safety, and security of users, emergency contacts, the public, or the service

## 6. Third-Party Services

SOS 111 relies on third-party services to operate key features. These may include:

– Firebase, for backend infrastructure, authentication support, database services, and storage-related operations

– Expo, for mobile app services and push notification delivery

– Twilio, for SMS messaging and related communications when enabled

These providers may process information on our behalf according to their own terms and privacy practices.

## 7. Data Retention

The backend currently includes the following retention settings:

– Location history: up to 365 days

– Alert history: up to 1825 days

– Audit logs: up to 1095 days

– Session logs: up to 90 days

We may retain information longer when necessary to comply with legal obligations, resolve disputes, protect users, prevent fraud or abuse, or enforce our agreements.

If you request account deletion, the backend includes a user-data deletion workflow that removes core user data, contacts, alerts, locations, check-ins, sessions, notification logs, and refresh tokens. Some audit records may be retained where necessary for compliance or security recordkeeping.

## 8. Security

We use administrative, technical, and organizational measures designed to protect information, including access controls, encryption-related safeguards, audit logging, and transport security requirements for production deployments.

No method of transmission or storage is completely secure. For that reason, we cannot guarantee absolute security.

## 9. Your Choices and Rights

Depending on your location and applicable law, you may have rights to:

– Access certain information associated with your account

– Update or correct your account information

– Delete your account data, subject to legal and compliance limitations

– Control device permissions, including location and notifications

– Request information about how your data is processed

The backend also includes support for data deletion workflows and audit-log export for compliance reporting.

## 10. Children’s Privacy

SOS 111 is not intended for children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13.

If you believe a child under 13 has provided personal information through the service, contact us so we can review and remove the information if appropriate.

## 11. International Transfers

Your information may be processed or stored in countries other than your own, depending on the infrastructure and service providers used to operate SOS 111.

By using the service, you understand that your information may be transferred to and processed in jurisdictions that may have different data protection rules than your home jurisdiction.
